The 3 Day Fast: Days 3 and 4
I did not post yesterday because it was the same as day 2. I just bummed around and felt like doing nothing all day.
Surprisingly I slept very well throughout my fast. The last time I did this I could not sleep through the night.
An interesting phenomenon happened toward the end of my fast: my tongue turned white. Well not completely white, but it had a white coating. This happens to drug addicts and alcoholics when they go to rehab. I suppose it makes sense. My body was getting rid of all the poisons in my body and a white tongue was a natural result.
Also, my dreams were very vivid while I was fasting. In almost every dream I had I was eating something. And after I ate it I would freak out and wake up in fear. It was actually quite funny.
My mood was sour throughout my fast. I was short tempered and snappy. Sorry to all those who had to deal with me.
The aftermath
This morning I woke up and ate two eggs that were fried in coconut oil. They were by far the best eggs I have ever had.
I am ashamed to say that I look like I just walked out of a Nazi death camp. I was skinny before I fasted, now if turn sideways you wont be able to see me.
All in all I'm glad that I did it. Food tastes phenomenal and my body has had some time to clean itself out. Even after the first day, when hunger goes away, I found myself simply missing the taste of food in my mouth. Especially when my roommates order pizza and eat it right in front of me.
I recommend everybody in America fast for at least 3 days, one time during their lives. It is an amazing test of self will and it puts the food we eat into perspective.
I am so happy to be able to eat again. I plan on eating until I throw up. Just kidding.
Thank you to all of you who followed my fast the last couple of days.
Till next time,
- Ryan
The 3 Day Fast: Day 2
Today was actually easier than yesterday. Sort of...
The good news is that I no longer have the feeling of hunger. Which is a huge relief.
The bad news is that I have very little energy. I just have no ambition to anything. I walked to the bank today. That took a lot of energy out of me.
Random Thoughts
TV is a savior because I do not need to think. However the food comercials make me want to eat my own arm.
My sleep pattern is really messed up. I woke up at 8, then went back to bed at 10 and slept till noon. Then I went to sleep again at 5 and woke up at 6:30. I am interested to see how tonight will go. I have a feeling that it will be very sporadic.
I can not wait to eat on Friday. It isn't that I'm hungry and want food, I just miss the taste of food in my mouth. I have had the same bland taste in my mouth for the last two days and I'm sick of it.
Also, to clear things up I am on a water only fast. I would not survive without water.
Short and sweet,
- Ryan
The 3 Day Fast: Day 1
I start my fasts based on the last time that I ate or drank anything. Today I had 2 eggs fried in olive oil and a cup of black coffee. This was at eight in the morning.
The last time that I underwent a 3 day fast I just jumped into it. The shock was almost more than I could handle so I decided to make some adjustments.
Yesterday I cut my total calorie intake by more than half. I only ate one meal, which was at 4 in the afternoon. My meal consisted of a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter, 4 eggs and some salsa. Yum
How do I feel?
As of this writing I feel pretty good. I have a minor headache, which is to be expected. I was very hungry around one in the afternoon.
I had to officiate a basketball game at 3:30. That took my mind off of my hunger for a while.
Most of all I feel tired and rundown. I'm not very motivated to do anything right now.
Also I cannot wait till I eat on Friday morning.
I am looking forward to tomorrow for two reasons. One, because it is one day closer to when I can eat again. And two because after roughly 24 hours the feeling of stomach hunger goes away. Hell Yes.
Looking toward the future I see a problem arising. Every morning I have one cup of black coffee. I not only enjoy this because it gives me a morning jolt, but I also enjoy the taste and the warmth that it brings me on a cool winter morning.
I would say that I am mildly addicted to coffee and I am not looking forward to going two days without it. I have done it before and I just feel run down all day. Add in the fact that I won't have any food in my system and the result is a pretty shitty couple of days.
After writing this I have noticed that I am being extremely negative. I suppose this is warranted as I have not eaten and I am hungry. I apologize for the negativity I will put forth an honest effort to be more proactive.
If bowl movements gross you out then I would skip the next couple of paragraphs.
The reason that I ate this morning was because I wanted to induce a crap. That didn't happen. So now the waste from the two meals that I have eaten will be rotting in my colon. Yay.
I hope I do not develop a colon cancer from all the shit that is just sitting in me.*
* When we eat, it sparks the large intestine to move feces through to the colon. The large intestine moves food by contracting sphincter muscles (a circular muscle). Picture a load of poop being pushed through the intestines by circular muscles that are contracting. Like squeezing cookie dough out of a plastic wrapper. Nice visual huh

I really want to watch TV but I hate watching it because it is a massive waste of my time. I need to sum up the motivation to do other, more productive things with my time.
I made the HUGE mistake of telling my roommates that I will be fasting for the next couple of days. Naturally they tempt me with food every chance they get. I guess I deserve it. They actually just walked in with Dairy Queen Blizzards. Terrific
If you have any questions or comments please leave them in either comment section or you can email me at bryantheryan@gmail.com.
I will again be posting my "progress" tomorrow. I hope you all follow me on my fasting adventure.
Have fun eating food,
Ryan
PS: I just got a craving for pretzels. I have not had a pretzel in 3 months.
